I think you can write this show in a way that appeals to young and old, and ensuring it all makes a degree of sense won’t frustrate children. The Moffat years mostly succeeded in those aims.

The problem RTD has now is he’s watched the modern show as a fan for decade, so has Moffat’s example to follow in terms of more complex season-long mysteries. But pulling that stuff off is hard and he’s not the best at it.
